Brazilian Catholic Community

The Brazilian Catholic community in Chicago invites you to St. Charles Borromeo Church in Melrose Park, IL. Portuguese mass is celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 5PM.

Confessions: Saturdays at 5 to 5:45PM. The community also gathers to feel connected with their roots and faith. After each service, members meet at the church’s cafeteria to learn about each other and a potluck dinner is sometimes arranged. The faithful Catholics also organizes a June Festival, best known as São João, a summer picnic for families, annual Feijoada special, and Christmas party.

“I think most of us miss the warmth of our family and friends in Brazil,” said Luci Mara Tonon, 67, who is originally from the southern Brazilian state of Paraná. “Here we get a chance to travel back to our home country, even if just for a few hours.”
